Precision track colour (might be 973?) was Larry Goddard's colour of choice and I've used it with pleasing results.

These days I find that dropping some black and/or Humbrol 186 into a pot of Humbrol 62 gives very similar results.

D&S ex NER Autocar Dia 162 , this was built a few years ago. The varnish used had lifted in places , it didnt like being in a cold shed , as a result the paint/varnish was stripped and the Coach repainted etc .

Looking much happier now .

Current progress of a D&S based NER Dia 18 Brake Third, a later version with a additional Two windows in the Brake area of the Coach.

This one is using up spare parts from various sources, and at the moment the last coach I will be building . Nothing screwed down in the photos.

D&S Sides and most of the underframe fittings

MJT Fox Bogies GNR version, there is nothing else available in OO.

Worsley Works Ends, Roof and Clerestory Top Windows etch .

The D&S parts are far superior in quality/detail/fit compared to the Worsley etches ( i have only ever used their Roof parts ), just so you are aware.

cheers

Ohhhh - I thought, because you'd done one before and were doing another of theirs, that you must have found them good / easy / well designed / all of the above. Well, we have to use what's available and you make an excellent job of them then!

Chas

A very simple decision no one else does the Roofs !!

Well designed ? 7/10

The Roof trusses supplied were used with the D&S Sides, which have fold over edge at the top . Trusses had to be cut to fit as then they are too wide. I also found the tops of the Trusses were too low when fitted , a piece of 0.45mm wire soldered across the top was all that was needed to level them, before soldering the Clerestory roof on. If not donen the Roof will sink in the middle. This was still needed even when I used the Worsley Ends (a deisgn fault). Slots provided for the Trusses to fit into on the main roof were in the wrong positions , if used where they were , the Trusses would have been visible through the Clerestory windows when built.

As already mentioned main roof too wide by 2/3mm , clerestory roof 1mm too narrow.

In fairness these were the first designs , hopefully he has now altered the designs too cover these minor problems, he is aware of the issues i have listed .

Thanks for explaining Mick; please exciuse me if I'm being slow here - or if I missed you mentioning this earlier in ther thread, but what was the reason you were using the Worsley parts, if you had the D&S sides? Did you have an incomplete D&S kit?

Chas

As per the post on the 21st April.

I am using up the last of my spare etches and luckily castings as well, to create this last ex NER Coach for my fleet.

Coach has just had it first coat of final colour today , and is now drying for 24 hours.

Sorry Mick - of course, I understand now. I did read that at the time but clearly didn't take it in properly! That's a nice thing to do - I bet lots of people just stick incomplete lots of parts in a spares box and they never get used.

Hornby A4 renumbred to Wild Swan , another one using up a old slightly battered now repaired R2339 body, Single Chimney from Graeme King . Tender is a detailed, re worked GBL copy of the Hornby A4 Tender Body, on a Hornby Chassis. Hornby Loco chassis was sourced via ebay for a good price.
