Medley Models

Post by richard »

Does anyone have a catalogue for Medley Models? I have a postal address. A mailed request for a catalogue / price list from the US might go down better if I include an order for a wagon or something like that!

Sounds like he has a lot of interesting and unusual 7mm stuff for the NER and LNER. There's a discussion on the 7mm list about a D20 kit he sells, but I hear he also has Fletcher locos and an NER Petrol Electric railcar.

Richard.
Medley Models were in attendance at the Keithely 7mm Fesitval yesterday. Their catalogue is a single A4 sheet listing the kits and prices. Unfortunately I have no access to a scanner at present - will see what I can do.

On the list is the NER petrol electric railcar (diag 102 or 176) @ £100-00

Thanks that will be great if you can find one.

Even though I was thinking of a Agenoria Manning Wardle as the next "loco", the Petrol Electric Autocar is very tempting...

Is his list of wagons short enough to type in? I was thinking I could order a wagon as a simple courtesy if I write to him asking for the price list. Also, is there any specified policy on overseas shipping costs? (if not, I can write a cheque "Do not exceed XXX" - I often do this with the NGS shop).

Thanks Andy - no problems with the delay.

Hot off the press (and looking at the time stamp on your post, since you posted the message), it looks like there's a strong chance I'll be at ALSRM in York next week, where Medley Models are meant to be. The last-minute trip is for my uncle's funeral, and I only received confirmation of the date and booked the flights in the past couple of hours. For various reasons including the cost of last-minute flights, I'll be in the Leeds area for almost a week. This means I can probably attend my first British model railway show since I was a kid. My father has also expressed an interest and he's hinted he might be persuaded to buy a kit - we shall see!

So thanks for the above list. I'll check it against Tatlow and the NER Record and come up with a short list that I'll take with me.

Interestingly, I see a P4 is listed - a type I've been after (it is the only wagon type I can 100% definitely identify on photos of my prototype 'inspiration'). My understanding was that no one made a P4, so I wonder what the quality is like?

Yes Simon Gott gave us the tour when I was over in August. I decided the photos he supplied were better than mine, but I posted some other pictures here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2553&hilit=bolton+abbey

and on the Wisbech & Upwell pages (Embsay have one of the W&U Drewery Shunters).

I had to look it up myself: http://www.alsrm.org.uk/

The Drewry is currently in BR green livery without skirts, but it is one of the two which were allocated to the line.

Considering the GNSR coaches had names, it is a little surprising it doesn't have skirts and black + wasp stripes. I guess the skirts are too much of a hassle on a conventional railway.

The ALSRM show was held on York last October, which I attended (with the York Model Engineers display). The show was fairly quiet, due to lack of suitable publicity (which I think was not the fault of the ALSRM -someone correct me if I'm wrong). In attendance last year were Connoisseur Models and Slaters with O and above scales - not sure who is attending this year.

The York Model Engineers will be their again, unfortunately I will not be able to make it - double booked on another trip.

Check out http://www.alsrm.org.uk/diarydates.html for this year's layouts, societies and traders attending.

Yes I looked at the list. Slaters are still there but not Connoisseur. Gladiator and Medley are listed as attending.

Although it might be a smaller show, it is going to be very different to a typical US show. This past weekend I was manning the Tex-N layout at the Fort Worth Lockheed Martin Show. Two N scale layouts, a HO layout, and a On30 layout. The only British stuff for sale was a Hornby Royal Train set in an estate sale. The only British stuff that was running was mine (unless you count Thomas).
There's only one finescale O touring club in the Metro area - all the others are Lionel 3 rail (none were at this show).

So I'm expecting something refreshingly different!

Hi all, I've been without the Internet for a few days so have only just seen this thread.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Richard.

Re models of the autocar, no news on the proposed Worsley Works one for 4mm yet. Unfortunately I could not get to the Keighley 7mm Open Day, would have liked to see the lads there and drop off some bits for them, but had commitments elsewhere...

Re Drewery, if anyone's coming to the Autocar AGM (Saturday 24th) is interested, I should be able to escort them round afterwards. (Committee meeting before, and an early lunch!) Stephen's coaches had names on for this year's Thomas events - they have now been removed - but if the Diesel and Plant crew can remember where they left the skirting, maybe we will have a Mavis for next year?

We may well be able to arrange a trip on the line afterwards, the railway will be operating that day and members may fancy a trip down to BA to see the autocar and autocoach. If you can come, bring a camera...

Well I made it to the Show today! Chatted with a lot more people than I usually do at the US shows.

Medley had quite a few Fletcher-era NER engines and is currently developing a Bouch '1001' which I shall probably buy at a future date.

I bought a P4 hopper and a NER Petrol Electric Railcar from Medley. We'll see how well they go together. They don't look too complicated, but the instructions could probably do with some more diagrams.
There's also the question of how to power the railcar. The one on the Stand had a chain drive to a "OO motor". I'm wondering if one of those Black Beetles or something like that could be used? Or even one of the Slaters motor drives? (seeing those on their stand, they look so much better than the worm gear I used on my Y7).

I need to check the books when I get back, but seating is another think I shall have to acquire.

My father decided to dive in at the deep end with a Gladiator Black 5, so I'm sure I can figure the railcar out :-)
