Ah, Progress!!!

I'm have now progressed further than ever before with Mel's Atlantic.

It is currently robed in wet primer.

Before I did this, I fitted vac pipes front and rear and made cylinder wrappers from shim brass. I now need some brush on metal primer.

Any ideas?

Ay up!

Slowly getting back to this.

The Atlantic is now mostly black. Unable to get my paws on an aerosol of black paint, hairy sticks are to the fore. I have 2 but our garage door is jammed in the closed position and harbours my faithful 4lb hammer, essential door un-jamming equipment!

Need some brushing primer for the cylinders and front frames then the overall black will be extended to the wheels, currently apple green!!

Hi BB

The Atlantic sounds like it is progressing pretty well now. Any chance of some pics please?

Yep

I shall be buying some brush on primer tomorrow so, once the basic paint is complete, pics will come.

The cylinders are Comet Compound cylinders with their cross head and slide bars with a shim brass wrapper on scratch built frame extensions. I'm rather proud of them, and the brass cab.

Ay up!

I'm currently keeping a beady, bloodshot eye on Railtec to see when they will be reprinting their custom loco numbers, just to see of they're any good.

Not looking hopeful ATM so may do it the old fashioned way...

Hello, followers of BB.

That crashing and foul language you can hear in the background is Mr Bonny throwing a tantrum of monumental proportions.

It would appear that the paint has taken perfectly on the tender but is now lifting in a few places on the locomotive. I know he painted them at the same time from the same paint cans so why? I dunno.

I shall wait for him to calm down. Hang on, is thay his Wallet attacking him?

What HAS the flabby fool bought this time????

With condolences

Mrs BB

Ay up!

Took delivery today of a fairly rare machine courtesy of the Bay of Evil. A Trix A3, sadly just the single tender version. Needs work but then what didmImexpect for £40? The tender drive block has corroded badly so a Hornby A3 TD is on order.....

Ay up!

Lining continues but slowly.

I decided that, as an intro to lining, this would not be the best possible choice with the re-entrant shape at the tender front. The straights are done as are three of the 4 corners on each side. Just the reverse curves at the front end.

Wish me luck......

Ay up!

Operating session in the garden yesterday and, despite having a good time, the failure toll is high.

1 GNR Atlantic (Mel's) - solder joints around cylinders failed. Smaller bogie wheels fitted, cured bogie swing problems BUT only after wrecking the extension frames.

1 Hornby J83 - crankpin screw fell out, recovered.

1 K's 14xx Auto Tank - motor out of alignment.

1 Hornby L1 2-6-4T - motor cradle screw loose.

1 Bachmann Ivatt 4MT - motion disintegrated investigation required.

1 Triang B12 - runs wrong way (!).

1 DJH Clan - shed smoke deflector.

1 Finecast J39 - tender pickups needed.

Also 2 joints in the track have moved during storage ad causing regular derailments so today's session has been postponed so I can do some renovation and repairs.....
