Bachmann 2012

A chance to air your thought's on what you think Bachmann might introduce, not everyone's cup of tea I know, but....!

Bachmann have introduced 0-6-0's over the last couple of years so I think it we may have another this year, I'm of the opinion that it may well be a LNER type, (fingers crossed)

Don't think there will be any diesels, but there might be a small shunter (07) ! although there's a good chance of a DMU/EMU again, ER slam-door stock !!

As for larger steam loco's, there's still a very large choice, of heavy freight, 2-8-0 and 0-8-0 ( Q6 or Q7 ) or even big 0-6-0's

What are your thoughts

Ay up!

Meself, I'd like to see:

J39 with proper (ie not split) chassis
J27
Gresley 01
Gresley 02
Gresley P1
Stanier 5MT 2-6-0
Fowler 7F 0-8-0.

Suitable chassis for these are already in the range, although some of 'em might require new cylinders and valve gear.

What we get may well be summat different. Roll on Monday!

Well the D49 and J39 were closely related in reality Manna, so why not - other than the fact that a J39 is available ready-made. Of course, if you have the spare body and chassis lying around anyway, I suppose it makes some sense and provides the enjoyment of building another item yourself. Now are you doing it purely because you can, or did some fool suggest that "it can't be done"? That's a phrase that has spurred me into action more than once.....

If you think about the possibility of a new non-split chassis for the J39 (just to suit those with a fad for gizmos, regardless of the merits of wiperless pick-up  ) then there is another fairly ubiquitous LNER 0-6-0 whose wheelbase is only 1" different, which lasted until the sixties, and which even came in one of ET's mutant versions. They even have a suitable tender already, but who knows whether this wide-open opportunity will be exploited. We'll all have to wait to discover what is revealed to those who get "sent to Coventry" on Tues/Weds.

In a world where most news gets "leaked" Bachmann have done well to keep their 2012/3 range quiet. It's not long now chaps. I'm working on the basis that there will be no new LNER and that way I won't be disappointed! :|

And Good morning, the J39 was purely,'cos I can :P I did read somewhere that the two were closely related, so having a spare Hornby chassis hanging around doing nothing, except take up space, I purchased a D49 body for something like 4.99, I already have a GS tender off of a withdrawn Wills K3.

As for an excuse to run a J39 in the Kings Cross area is, a KX loco was taking a North London Sunday excursion to Southend, when it burnt out a couple of firebars, so is now trapped in Southend, so a Southend J39 had to bring the tired daytrippers home (plausible) so KX are borrowing it until they get there engine back !

Anyone got any Southend J39 numbers.....Huh....please

Hi All

Amen to a North Eastern mineral locomotive!

Now if Bachmann produced a Q7 0-8-0, then Hornby could reverse engineer the boiler and produce a B16 4-6-0 the following year - Similar to the Bachmann Robinson O4 2-8-0, and Hornby's subsequent B1 4-6-0 & then a Thompson O1 2-8-0. Then you could twin the Thompson O1 & Raven Q7 and start running iron ore twixt Tyne Dock & Consett Steel Works.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a K1, new J39 chassis or A2/3. Any class that didn't make it into BR days in any numbers is unlikely I think.

That makes absolute sense. Bachmann will want to ensure that the model is long-running with as many potential variants as possible I would have thought. So long as there is at least one LNER variant I will be more than happy! :)

A Q would be a nice turn up. I hope they will venture into the 0-6-0 LNER world of wonders, however we have to remember that there will be a delay before she hits the halves no matter what they come up with.

I am sure there will be more modern stuff as they have been very good at all the latest DMUs and locos that we have seen. I wonder if here will be any carriages, a set of quads and a B12 would be proper lovely. Oh hold on what about an N7....

At 10.30 am on RMweb, Andy Y is giving a list of the Bachmann 2012 announcements. I am currently at work however so won't be able to indulge in the discussion I suspect!

I am over the moon. It does beg the question what I do with my two whitemetal offerings! :) (probably finish them would be a good start!)
