I am sure that I have a 7mm kit for one of these somewhere, I may have to dig it out.

The A14 is coming on well, I'm pleased with it, I like all the holes in the deck, which made me model it in the first place, so I've
decided not to have a load.

Further progress on the A14 (not the road).

All rivets applied to one side only and the ends and other bits
applied, the brake wheels were interesting to make. The adjustable chocks (img 0321)
took some time work out as the drawing for them does not exist at the NRM.
The small nuts are 16ba, I need to find some small handwheels (4no) for these.
I did have some I got from Arthur K but can I find them or the other bits I got for
the J71.....some where they are living in another universe unhappy that they have lost me.

Wizard and Brassmasters both do etches of small hand wheels, Dave. Bill Bedford does one more towards your handbrake wheel size.

Thanks Jonathan.

I will check out 51L, but its annoying as the small wheels I got from Arthur were
just right. I used Bills 4 spoke hand wheels as the backing for the plastic spokes,
I did this cos his spokes were too narrow.
Plastic bits then glued to Bills spokes, filed to shape and then gentley bent to shape.
Seems to have worked as they have kept their shape.

Traction engine wagon primed and a coat of grey acrylic , I can't remember what shade, but I wanted a faded grey look.

Well here we have a knot of Toads.
From left to right
Parkside E this will be 178582 of 1935
Parkside B 157826 of 1929
Then 2 very old Parkside B's about 33 years old which were never converted to EM so retained big couplings
and never finished...that old story. Both are being refurbished.

Hi John.
Well for me it's brown, I always thought white handrails were a blackout thing during the war, but I do stand too be corrected.

In the unlikely event that my memory is wholly reliable, and that dates attributed to various photographs I've seen are all reliable, then handrail colour before WW2 may have depended upon which works built or repainted the van, and when. Something from the murky depths of memory suggests to me for instance that at least some GC pattern brake vans were wearing white handrails before WW2, but I cannot be sure if the period in question was one when the writing was on the wall and blackout preparations were already under way.

Atlantic I think you are correct about different works treating the handrails in alternative ways. Gorton/Dukinfield certainly seemed to favour white handrails.

it would certainly be a way of adding some variety to a design that to my knowledge had very little variation within its diagram. especially if I plan to upgrade about 5 Bachmann/mainline LNER Toads that I already have, but as from the factory require a repaint, some separate handrails and a few more details

I did an ex-GC van with white handrails. It just shows up where they aren't perfectly straight. Back to body colour for me and I might put a bit of pale grey on as part of the weathering process.
