First coat of thinned engineers blue applied.

Nice to see so many friends at Thirsk show today, a lovely little model railway gathering.
Those who were there will have seen the weigh van and the 2 bogie wagons.
For those who were not there I have 2 new wagons on the go now.
I've must have been taking the same medicine as Jonathan as I started this NBR 30t bogie swivel wagon yesterday and it's almost finished being built apart from the bogies. Then this morning I started a NBR 35t Quintiple Bolster, so far just the floor and sides done. These are both'from the Parkside NER Quad. Plus A second thinned coat of blue on the weigh van. got to stop taking the speed tablets.

Excellent day out at Thirsk and it's good to see someone following in my footsteps. The Pooley van is looking very promising.

After giving the weigh van a second thinned coat of blue and starting to apply transfers, I
had a sudden horrible realisation.......I have missed the second roof light off.
Thats now rectified.
The NBR 35t Quintiple Bolster has had its sides added and 3 bolsters. These fit over the
body so the cut outs.

Well after a quick start I've not had much time this week for modelling but I did manage some yesterday and will do some tonight.
So the swivel has had it's bolster bases finished, buffers and couplings added. The buffers are LMS early GWR buffers that look
like the originals.
The quintiple has had its bolsters made and small fillets added to the kit buffers and couplings added. A couple of corrections
made, I discovered yesterday the wagon was 52ft long over the body and not the same as I had thought as the swivel. When I
studied the photo I realised the ends were end bolsters. Still onwards and downwards.

I'm looking for my mapping pen to finish the lettering on the weigh van.......it's not in my drawing pen box......hmmm.

Weigh van has had steps added
The NBR Quintiple is very nearly finished, just buffer heads and a pair of fillets to add.

Bogies started for the NBR swivel wagon.
Then bogie side support is the Parkside bogie supplied in the kit, this has all detail removed and then thinned down,
Next a 10thou bogie side is made, then a 20thou bogie face is added.
Axle boxes need ordering from 51L when I next put an order in.

Not much progress, been on the high seas being all piratical, plus waiting till I had enough bits to order from 51L.
Which arrived today.
So weigh van has had NER axleboxes and new springs attached, steps painted and weathering started. I will attempt
some more lettering as I've just got a new mapping pen......we will see.
Quintiple has been primed and painted in Tamiya Dark Grey, and the interior painted in shades of light grey to represent aged wood.
The new bolster is painted to look like new oak. Lettering has started.
Bolsters started on the other NBR wagon.

Bolsters now made and complete.
Bogie coming on, but I'm not happy with it, there may be a mk11.
Bolsters fitted and suitably bent, brake rodding to fit and it can be primed.

Not a lot of progress as I have been away on my travels. Scotland and Germany.
I spent time on the Loch Katrine steamer Sir Walter Scott, a lovely way to travel, then a visit to The Maid of the Loch
which is being restored by Loch Lomond. This was the last steam paddle ship built in Britain.
Then a week travelling on the Hatz narrow gauge railway, just amazing. Those 2-10-2 tank locos are very impressive.

The NBR bogie wagon has been painted and a new set of bogies are being built. These are Cambrian Model Rail
GWR plate bogies with all the detail removed and new NBR profile sides being fitted.

A cunning way to make the right bogies.

Well it's about time for an update, I think.
Work on the NBR swivel wagon has stalled due to the non arrival of axleboxes from 51L. So far they have been sent twice but the thiefs at the royal mail seem to want them more than me. They really need to get their thieving hands orf my stuff.
So in the meantime I have built 6 assorted LMS vans from Cambrian kits, finished a NER Perishable van and a NER V1 brake van.

Whilst building one of the LMS vans, a Dia d1663 steel ended version, I thought that end looks like the early LNER steel van end on page 123 of vol 4A of LNER wagons. I had a spare D1663 van, a Parkside Dia 94 12t van and a Parkside LNER 10ft wagon chassis kit. Combine them all together and see what we get.
First job was to compare the ends. The LMS end needs the roof profile altering to suit the LNER profile. Plus the Cambrian end is slightly narrower.
