The LNER Encyclopedia

The one at Pickering is an H3, so at least one made it through the LNER.

When I visited Hitchin, I photographed the superb ballast train on there, which is in blue faded almost to white. If I can find it, I'll post the picture so you can see how they did it.

There are a number of rather nice engineers vehicles on The Gresley Beat in varying states of deterioration of the oxford blue some of which I think I photographed on a visit 4 years ago. When I get home in a day or two I'll dig those out and post.

Good morning JW that is an H3 at Pickering, Brian of this parish has posted some pics of it a while ago.
I wonder if he has any underframe pics, I'm pretty sure they did not have an external wheel operated handbrake
like the H2, but a column type like a brake van, as the steps are in the way, my plan hints at this and the dia drawing
shows a vertical link. This may have changed in later life when they were used for other things and the tanks removed
as the Pickering van has lever operated brakes.

Woodcock29 many thanks for the photo's, I don't remember seeing them the layout last time I saw it, I must pay more attention
in future, I do like the very pale 6 wheeler.

After the enlightening discussion on colour I resprayed
the body with Halfords white primer and have given the body
3 coats of thinned Precision LNER Engineers Blue, this seemed
to go down well at Wakefield last weekend with the LNER Soc
members who post on here and were present. It will be weathered
down a lot more so will be less intense.

Again looking at Brians photo's the H3 at Pickering it defiantly
looks as if it's a very faded blue.

So progress todate, transfers added, I have no idea if the
layout is correct, I have no lettering info on this van,
windows glazed, roof cut, tank fillers made.

Stores van now with roof, skylights and tank fillers on and now with roof painted, progressing well
just weathering to apply now, I think.

I was lucky enough to see some of Dave's creations at Wakefield show.
The stores van, without roof, was exceptional too.

Almost 'Kentian' in the use of the plasticard.

The light was poor at Wakefield, perhaps the car boot studio needs reviving at Scalefour North Dave.

Of course, an important part of the weathering has already been 'built in' by means of the faded blue paintwork. And verrry nice it looks. Likewise the pulley wagon. I have the feeling that if I rubbed the pins holding the top baulks in place the rust would flake away onto my fingers.

Now many months ago I started a D & S NER dia G7 bogie van (some may remember)
in fact it was June 2014. This kit stalled when I burnt some of the strapping
with too much heat from a gas soldering iron, the van was laid to rest in a
drawer and returned to the light the other week. The white plastic strips
are the replacement 5thou strapping, the rest of the detailing has been
superglued on, the brake gear soldered and finished, just a few bits to add
and it can be primed, after the solder has been cleaned up. The left hand
queen post looks less than vertical< I've checked the model and it's fine (must be
the camera lens), cameras can be so cruel.
