Thanks guys. I know what you mean about the top of the quad arts. The photo emphasises it but may do a bit more on them.

On the B12 could it be the valances changed colour when the full size number was put on the cab and the beading removed?

This as stated looks like the white and black lining so on green

https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com ... /i-L4dbdMN

but this looks to only have a single line - and therefore black

https://transportsofdelight.smugmug.com ... /i-CztTjbm

The colour rail picture does look black not just dirty to me.

It might just be different works - 8500 has been transferred to Scotland so would have been painted at Inverurie rather than Stratford.

"On the B12 could it be the valances changed colour when the full size number was put on the cab and the beading removed?"

The photographs in Yeadon's Vol 7 tend to support this conclusion.

Inverurie painted the B12s black, with double red lining on the cabside. No 8500 in the link above is evidently in this condition.

Slowly but surely I am getting there and am happy with the basic shape now. Chimney, dome and smokebox door just placed on to look nice.

All you need now is a silver train to go behind it - you could call it the Flying Swede :)

I have a McGowan C4/5 Atlantic kit I got years ago thinking it was a good idea at the time.
Every time I look at the bits in the box I think meeeh.....

At least I maybe able to use some of the detailing parts, though doubtless one of the wiser heads on here will tell me they are also useless.

Keep On Pottering - I like dropping in on your thread, you may have converted me to doing my own version of Potters Bar if I ever get the time.

After a huge amount of faffing, adjustment and rebuilding the McGowan B12/1 is done except for weathering, coaling and crew.
The red on the frames is a bit much but will be toned down with weathering. Brakes have been added to the Hornby chassis in a method suggested above (thanks!).

Nice work Phil, I'm not far behind you with the ugly sister version.

I think there is good reason to be pleased with that result Phil.

Thanks both. Since taking that picture the weather has not gone very well. One step forward two steps back but will get there in the end!

I can't seem to find a simple description of this but if one is out there and I have missed it please point me in the right direction!

What is the pattern for tail lamps on the rear of LNER trains?

Have started on a D&S horsebox kit and so far so good... except I cannot work out what the instructions are on about with these parts. Spring Dampers? Anyone got a picture of the underneath of one they have built so I can see where these go?

Thanks!

A few pictures of progress.
The old Hornby Gresley conversions to GNR coaches are pretty much finished. They make up the 5 coach Cambridge Buffet Express.

Also, shamelessly taking inspiration from Mick b's work

A3 Brown Jack from a Hornby NRM Flying Scotsman. Smoke Deflectors gone, handrails extended, double swapped for single chimney and boiler modified.
P1011555.JPG
Also Dominion of New Zealand from a Hornby Kingfisher. Standard lettering swapped for etched ones and the trim added.
