Thanks very much. My technique, as far as I have one so far is using a airbrush with varying quantities of railmatch frame dirt, roof dirt and weathered black. Then powder to do a few highlights and add texture.

Hi all,

Well I haven't got round to posting in 7 months but I haven't been completely idle.

Most of the loco fleet is now weathered crewed and lamped.

Sorry as ever about the quality of the photos, one day I will work out how to get better results.

Thanks for this update Phil. As one who lived at Potters Bar for my first 8 years I have been following this layout with great interest.

G'day Gents

Only knowing Potters Bar from 1970, and in rebuilt form, so island platforms, I never realized that the main buildings were on the Down side, I always thought that they were on the Up side, Ah, well live and learn :D Loco's look good to.

That is coming along very nicely Phil, well done.

My 1950 version is coming along very slowly, I would have to say at a snails pace. I have another hobby that occupies my time in the spring, summer and early autumn, so not a lot gets done.

I haven't had much time at all this year to make progress on the layout but did have a play around with a nicer camera and photoshop today.
Still not all in focus and the sky is probably a bit much but thought I would pop them up.

On this one have messed with the grass colour digitally. Hasn't really worked

Few more pictures. Have been making some progress on the footbridge so things have not entirely ground to a halt.

Hi all,

Its been well over a year since I posted. To be honest due to some personal stuff nothing got done all for a year or so. Anyway you don't want to know about that! I am back up and running adding to the layout. Will post some more pictures of the layout progress soon but I am not sure about my footbridge colours.

The footbridge is bodged up from a kit with lots of modifications and additions to be a fairly close match the Potters Bar one. I am going for the pre-1937 Brown and Cream colour scheme but am not sure how to apply it to a mixed iron and timber footbridge. I want to paint all the wood cream and all the iron brown but I am not sure that matches the guidelines I have seen- although they don't really specify what a mixed material footbridge would be painted in.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Diagram 3D GNR brakevan. Had to make a good proportion of it myself and probably would not go laser cut wood wagon kit again but it's coming along.

Interesting to see one of those wooden kits being built. What would you say were the good points, and what was either not supplied or not in your opinion suitable or good enough please?

In the kit you get just the basic body, solebars, some glazing and a card roof. The solebars are so thick I couldn't use them and fit wheels so ended up making everything underneath the body from plasticard and some spare Parkside mouldings. I also haven't use their roof. Also all the detail is lasered in so strapping etc is 2D so I have added this as well. The wood isn't easy to glue to and as there is no moulded detail quite a bit needs to be stuck on. Certainly a lot more work than a plastic moulded kit.
Good points are that the planking has come up nicely and there is no flash to deal with!

Hi Phil,
Thankyou for your build description.
Your effort looks perfect.

I have two of these kits ......
Maybe one day I will get to build them.
