On my Dia 218T triplet made from three D&S kits I used etched duckets produced by Frank Davies of the Shipley MRS. They were included on one of a couple of sheets of extra parts for Howlden stock he had produced.

Although I didn't have "known quality" drawings to hand to allow me to check, I now remember that in the process of making resin GN duckets to suit Margate Hornby corridor stock conversions, I came to suspect that the D&S castings might be narrower than they should be too. If that is so, it may be purely academic as there may not be much that can be done to change things, given that any ducket has to fit the available space in the brass side...

Do you still make (or have in stock) a few of those duckets Graeme? They might be usable on the new Hornby six wheel stock.

I think the moulds for the resin GN style duckets are still viable, although not used for some time. 10 or 12 mm width options. Panelling obviously won't match the round cornered version on the RTR offerings, whether LBSC based or flight of fancy. The heights and the shapes of the backs of the duckets won't necessarily be compatible either.

Its mixed media time when it comes to coaches here.

First up the three D&S brass kits are very nearly ready for painting.
Islinglass 3D printed milk brake sides have been bought to be stuck on a non-corridor plastic kirk kit.
Finally another go at a Diagram3D kit - this time for a GNR Howlden coach. Laser cut card. Very thin but all loaded into the 'Smart frame'.

It's been a fair while since I posted but then what I have been up to isn't very interesting!
I decided to whole change all my stock over to 3 links/screw couplings (except coaches which should have buckeyes and are stuck in rakes).
I also re-did the window frames on the buildings using a method nicked off a fella on youtube where you put sticky labels on the clear plastic score it and peel away excess to leave the frames.

Sorry about the poor picture but it is a big improvement in the flesh. (Still need to sort the chimneys). Finally when I should have been finishing other things I have started on a D16/2 to be a 'Royal Claud'.
I had a while ago picked up an old Mallard Models kit and got a secondhand Hornby D16 to save buying wheels and motor etc.
The plan was to just build the loco body as per the kit and sell the Hornby body but the kit was missing some parts so I have ended up cutting the hornby body up to make a hybrid thing. I was messing about trying to shorten the hornby boiler but its diecast and not working out as it needs to be shrunk in-between the boiler bands so was a real faff. I think I will use brass tube from the kit to do this now. Its probably better to keep the weight towards the back anyway.

The D16 looks like an interesting job, actually it looks quite difficult, one of those "fun" projects.
Good tip on the windows, I haven't started on any buildings for Hawick yet and all will need to be built from scratch so I'll look into that.

Has been a while again.
Finally gave up waiting for my mate to 3D print the parts I had designed and persuaded him to just lend me the printer.
After a lot of faffing and getting bits wrong I got to the point where I could get usable results.
Here is a bunch of smaller items - all made in Tinkercad. Mansell wheel inserts, lamps, GNR roof fittings and some underframe parts.
The wheel inserts were the final parts needed for the D&S GNR 6 wheelers which are now weathered and complete.

Now am moving forward on some of the other coaches and using my own designed and printed fox bogies.

I also saw a nice photo of an earlier Howlden milk brake in an article I tracked down in a magazine about milk trains. The side from plasticard and the roof 3d printed. I tried making the beading from sticky back plastic rather than plasticard and it has come out much better. Easier to keep straight and will cut finer on the silhouette cutter.

Properly applied DIY ideas win again. Much more interesting than opening red and blue boxes full of ready-made standardized post 1950 rolling stock.

The 6 wheelers and NPCS projects are all looking good Phil.

A few things aside from the bogies and roof fittings etc I have done in Tinkercad. All at various stages of trying them out 3D printed and will pop up some photos when they are ready.

A GNR open wagon. Buffers printed separately.

GNR van. Chose one with a sliding door and 4 end posts to be different but will modify to create some variations with standard doors and 2 end posts. Both of these done from Tatlow book. Buffers and roof printed separately.
Also a 6 wheel chassis to go underneath a Diagram 3D laser cut card kit of a fruit and milk van. This has needed a few prototypes on the way to get it right. It has some separate CAD for wheels and brakes etc.
