Some lovely work there Rusty. The Q1 piques my interest in particular. I'd always heard the Millholme one didn't make a particularly convincing model but yours looks excellent, refreshed. Been considering getting a cheap GWR ROD off Hattons to cut and shut into a Q1 or Q4 (or both!)

Thanks will look a lot better with brake gear etc, I do have a second Q1 which I picked up together with yet another NuCast Q6.

Just started stripping down 3 partially built kits I bought at auction, luckily they have been built well but with 5 min epoxy so some soaking in thinners and they are coming apart well:

NB Models 0-6-2 N15 Kit (unbuilt)
Nu-Cast SP122 2-4-2 F4 Class,
Nu-Cast NC103 0-4-4 G5 Class,
DJH K26 4-4-4 H1 Class

for some reason I have accumulated 4 Nu-Cast Q6 locos so will strip those and rebuild them with finer scale wheels etc, will probably get 3 good ones from the 4

I am not sure that the Nu-Cast Q6 builds into a reasonable representation of the prototype. The boiler being both too narrow and too short.
There is a discussion on Page 7 of my 'Make do and Mend' thread (sorry, can't work out how to insert a link using this tablet. Will try to correct tomorrow using a proper keyboard.)


Their J21 however does seem to be quite accurate.

I have two Q6s, one built from a Dave Alexander kit, which is just about my best locomotive, and a slightly modified Hornby one, which also looks good.

The Nu-Cast Q6 is much more like a Q5.


My DJH H1 eventually got re-built (prototypically) as an A8.

Some years ago maybe, but did you encounter a problem with the coupling rods being only 32.5mm rather than 33mm?

Sorry I realise that I have not made myself clear, I'm referring to the Craftsman C12 coupling rods.

No they seem to be OK, I'm using Markits wheels and their deluxe crank-pins but with some reaming out the chassis is nice and smooth.

More work done on the Q1, looks a lot better better now than when i started:
