A quick deviation:

The gear wheel on the GER Little Sharpie I had just built decided it no longer required to be attached to the axle. It had been an interference fit attached with Loctite but light oiling had affected the fit and it no longer gripped the axle so I decided to solder a boss to the gear so it could be locked in place with a grub screw.

1. I needed a boss, the gear was very small and as I didn't have anything to substitute it I separated one from a spare gear I had using a mini drill and a knife blade as a parting tool.



2. Here is the shortened boss on the axle and the gear wheel ready to fit:

Many thanks, the chassis had originally been built to EM and I was asked to convert to OO, just need to put the coupling rods and pickups back on an see how she goes now.

Loço now running well and returned to its owner.

On with the next project, will post an update soon.

Picked up this McGowan Models GNR 10ton Brake Van kit up some time ago so its time to have a play to see what can be made of it:

Thought Id share a couple of wagons i threw together a little while ago, The first uses a Parkside LNER Conflat S and DX container kit as a basis, all of the brake gear has been replaced with detailing parts from Mainly Trains.

The second is from is a RECTANK built from an ABS kit.

Once you get the inner ends to fit the McGowan brake van kit works quite nicely, doesn't it? Although did you also find that one of the w irons is taller than the other(s)?

Mine seems to sit level so I am assuming all is ok with the w-irons.

Managed to find a pair of lamp housings that will work as well, as they don't appear to be supplied.

Bit more work done on the GNR brake van, decided on a brass roof rather than the recommended plastic and used PC models 12" buffer heads.
