ECML Cutting - Tunnel end - Building a garden railway cont

Hi All,

Well the cutting is finally finished - well apart from a few morre bushes/hedges/fences and telegraph poles - Oh yes! and the road over bridge!! But that's a few weeks away.

Anyway, the tunnel end is now finished and the main grass bank areas are done too.

The insides of the tunnel are finished in brick - well muckied up and very sooty/dusty so when viewed from an angle the brickwork can just bbe seen - although the pictures are too contrasty to show them.

Next step is to finish off the bonding on all the joints and run the cables/wiring in for the DCC, point motors in place and then move on to the next project - hopefully to get the line running by the middle of summer.

Looking good - just need an A4 passing an A3 - both with rakes of teaks!

I assume the spare bit of track near the tunnel is based on a prototype photo?

Thanks for those comments, much appreciated.

Yes, it is. The spare bit that you are referring to - on the up line side? - is actually awaiting a turnout for the spur road - when I get aroundtuit!

The spare bits of track piled on the other side near the signal box are just spare track piled near the signal box! :D

The A3 is almost ready - the A4 soon - but the rake of teaks are on the build list, so they may take a little longer, unfortunately.

Yes the upside - I thought the edges of the other track was out of scale, and hence temporary :-)

Those roundtuits can be hard to get - harder than the old Minitrix Teaks used to be! :-)

Hi Richard.

The main track is unballasted Peco, so hence the sleepers look a bit thick, but the turnouts are Marcway soldered construction - the sleepers are a lot thinner. A little ballasting may eventually take place, although there are often problems with drainage and temperature changes that with glued ballast there is a restriction of movement. A problem to be looked into in great detail yet.

That is impressive indeed :shock: I would've built a garden railway, but my garden is nowhere near compatible...
