Heljan Gresley O2 2-8-0 'Tango'

Post by Brush53Falcon »

Well as promised I am able to add that Heljan have in development a Gresley O2 2-8-0 'Tango' with the aim of eventually producing all versions to include both boilers, both cabs, both bufferbeams, high and low running plate and four tender styles. The model is expected to be released in 2014 and further material is being sought to enable a very accurate model. There are also some experts in this field who have been approached and have confirmed their valued support which should also help to with the authenticity. It will also have the option of authentic O2 3cyl sound which will be produced from original sound recordings.
I hope to be able to keep this forum updated with the development stages at regular intervals and look forward to receiving any valid comments during the course of the project.

Excellent news! Would it be too much to hope that the design will include some consideration for the possibility of re-building the chassis for other applications, such as

1. Sticking to one of the existing after-market "industry standard" axle sizes such as 3mm or 1/8th inch, rather than introducing an oddity, so as to facilitate alterations to EM gauge.
2. Making it "not impossible" for enterprising modellers to move the second coupled axle to the correct position for the Gresley 2-cylinder 2-8-0s, i.e. the original O1 (later O3) class?

Dare we even hope that the GN tender might be offered as a stand-alone accessory item?

Go on. Pleeeeeeease!

Of course if you safeguard the re-wheeling option you are also within spitting distance of an RTR P1.......

Fantastic news. They did use to turn up at York from Doncaster and the South so I'll be having at least 2.

All cabs and tender types!!! Overjoyed! Well done Heljan!

And on that note, I definitely won't be buying a Hornby 01

I can see a GNR liveried 02 hauling my freight stock already (drools)

Get both Blackout. :) Support Hornby and maybe see some more LNER stuff from Margate! :)

Plus the O2 isn't going to appear until 2014......you freight services will need something to haul them! ;)

I have my Bacchy 04 at present ;), besides, my pennies are low (another shelling of the already over stretched bank accout will commence on Sunday at Warley) and I'll be supporting Hornby next year with a B1 or Black 5 :)

I've bought a fair amount of Hornby products this year. If I had the money I would have got DP2 or a baby Deltic to stable with D9008

It occurs to me, somewhat belatedly, that we should express our gratitude for the early annoncement on this forum. The matter seems still to be under wraps elewhere.

One of those news announcements that makes a person's day. I am hoping that the Heljan Gresley O2 will be every bit as impressive as the Heljan Beyer Garratt is looking.

Overall ladies and gents, we're not doing too badly at all from the RTR manufacturers at the minute...not too badly at all.

I wonder if this could spark another full-size "new build" scheme :?:
