G'Day Gents

Another problem with those so called 'coal eggs' was when, after coaling, the fireman opened the tender door, the whole darn lot would roll straight out onto the cab floor, as one Ex Fireman related to me one night shift, he ended up filling the firebox, then shoveled the rest out of the cab onto the floor, hated at KX and Hornsey.

Ay up!

The sun came out today - at least that's what I'm told it was - so I got the train set out this afternoon. And gave a few locos their 1st runs. Most of these are out of court here but these 2 should be OK.

1st up is the Ivatt - this featured earlier when I put a cast metal body on the Bachmann chassis, after once converting it into a Standard 4. There was a slight short on it but the flanges soon created their own clearance! Note another new purchase behind the tender - a Triang London Brick wagon. So there is an LNER connection!

Been after one of these for a long time! A Lima model with added buffer beam detail and better couplings. I shall not be modifying the windscreen frames on this one. Yes they are too thick but I'll live with this one. Happy days!

I like the tracks at window-sill level, BB.

The 40 seems to be a bit let down by its yellow end. Is is yellow coloured plastic? I do hate it when companies do that to save costs, because it never seems to look realistic. The express passenger discs help a bit.

Hi, BB, the black dots on the buffers look like a pair of eyes, do you get that feeling that your being watched !!! :D

All the time!

And yes, SS, the front is yellow plastic but here's the rub. On the other end (I think) I had to change the headcode mainly because D200 always carried class 1 discs when I saw her so I had to make a replacement "closed" disc which I painted with Railmatch Warning Panel Yellow. And it matches Lima's plastic exactly.

Weird or what????

Ay up!

A Peak is a Derby Type 4 - that's an English Electric Type 4 of blessed memory. Many times I have ridden behind her on the 16:40 Leeds - Carlisle. Happy days! I have a Peak - it may yet appear. An original Mainline one, suitably detailed. Well, I couldn't live with the buffers on the loco body, could I?!?

As for the Ivatt, there were a few of them built at Darlington! So there is a link....

Anyway, we even have fans of that obscure tramway serving points West on here.....

Yes, I know Simon.

There are fans of that strange railway on here. Confession time - I was brought up LNER/LMS and am equally happy with either. And I do have an admiration for Maunsell and Bulleid's works.

Remember, it took an LNWR man to sort out the Swindon boiler and bring it up to date!

Those models are looking rather good. The Lima 40 is a massive improvement over the original model.

Me too, but not on such a grand scale.

Well what do you do when the kids are at school, the other half is working and you're on your 4th day as a jobseeker at 52 ! :roll:
