In need of LNER heavy freight fast

Post by Tom Quayle »

I am currently in the process of compling a collection of locos and one major gap is LNER freight locos (I model everything in BR for simplisity).
Does anyone know where I can get hold of an O4, Q6, O2 and J27 as well as an A5 tank and L1 so that I can finish what has been a year long quest for LNER freight engines and heavy tank engines.
Thanks Tom

LNER heavy freight

Post by GeoffB »

Hi Tom

I know there are one or two kits in O but not familiar with OO nowadays - must be 40 years since I was in that scale - but still have - on my bookshelf - an original Hornby Dublo "Sir Nigel Gresley". Doesn't run nowadays ('cos I've not tried it since 40+ yrs ago) - just sits there looking pretty!! :D

Hi Tom.

Some of the items you are looking for have been produced as whitemetal kits by Nu-cast. On looking to see if these are still available I found this site which may be of some use,

www.thekitconnection.com

they list the kits available by manufacturer and railway.

Alternatively try e-bay, locos appear regularly.

Happy hunting.

Heavy Goods Locos

Post by northeastern »

Forget kit connection. far too expensive.
L1 was manufactured by ABS. Manufacure has stopped but kits are still available from Keykits. Try contact at Keykits
E-mail Address(es):
info@keykits.net
Dave Alexander does do Q6 and J27 but you can also get his kits from Mainly Trains (cheaper). www.mainlytrains.co.uk
DJH do a Q7 and A8.
Little Engines do A6, A7, A8 and number of 2-8-0 freight locos (Thompson O1, Robinson O4/3, O4/7 and O4/8). They also do a very nice heavy shunting tank (T1 4-8-0), tempted? Try contact keith_landles@yahoo.co.uk .
If I find anymore I'll post later.

PDK do a Gresley O2/3. Can be built as an O2/4. Looks very nice.

Tom,

Just be careful about any WANDERING suggestions. Keep on the right track and keep on the right side of the country.

Only because the War Department / Ministry of Supply gave a helping hand :-)

More seriously, the 8Fs were good engines. Even the ultra-cheapskate version (the O7 / Austerity) lasted a lot longer than was intended. Built to last about 3 years, they were still operating in the 1960s. All in a horrible condition though, and the only survivor had to be re-imported from Sweden.

:-)

It would have been nice with all those surviving 8Fs, if an O1/O3 and an O2 was preserved instead!
