Agreed
I'm part way into a complete rebuild of the Kingdom Kits version of the L1. Must get back to it.

Paul, Andrew,
It is an ugly so and so which was the main attraction to have something different,,Robinsons usual designs were beautiful,, IMO.
Many thanks for the encouragement,,, it seems to have taken so long to get this far,,, but we are now pretty close,,, and then the paint shop.
Joy of joys!!

Have today managed to:
Get the roof to fit,,, it will not be fully fixed till after paint as I want to get some detail highlighted.
Made up the "battle-axe" wheel balance weights.
Fitted the handrail to the smokebox door.

So before I declare the L1 "officially finished/awaiting paint"

Can I ask if anyone is aware if they had an opening ventilation hatch/shutter built into the cab roof???
Have checked all the photo's I have in the green bibles, Yeadons, Loco's Illustrated and the 2 vol's of GCR Loco books without success.
If anyone has a Dean Sidings, or Kingdom model is the vent included in them???,,, I know it is risky to model on a model but knowing my luck I will decide it didn't have one,, paint it,, and then somebody will advise they did have a ventilator!!!

It's taken 7 years to get this far,,, and I just hope it isn't the same again before it gets painted!!!!

Does it really matter how long it's taken? An end result like that is worth it I would say, it's a superb model.

Definitely a nice result, and undoubtedly harder work than simply putting together the old Kingdom Kit, which was "all" that I did - apart from reversing/correcting the bizarre error in the coupled wheelbase.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Thankyou gents for the kind words it really is appreciated.
Don't mention wheelbase errors Graeme,,, not now I think it is finished!!!
They were taken from Nick Camplings RM drawings from way back when and confirmed against the Robinson / Blacksmith book!!!

Am now hell bent on getting the D2 and C4 ready for the M&GN show,,,, am currently fiddling about with lining pens and Fox transfers,,,, how do some people actually get enjoyment out of this activity,,, I'd rather spend time in Herr Flicks cellar.

Ah well at least it is nice and warm in the garage at the moment.

Once again,,, many thanks.
