NE 10 Tons perishable wagon detail

Post by apple_green »

Hello

Would someone be able to identify a detail on a NE 10 Tons perishable wagon, visible in:-

LNER Wagons, by P.Tatlow, 1998, ISBN 1-899816-05-4

See page 42, wagon number 84872.

I would like to know what the small recessed square with a cover is between the sliding side door and the bottom left hand set of louvres.

Is this a covered label clip or something else?

Many thanks in advance.

I think that's exactly what it is - have a look at plate 43, van 6359, which is page 25 in my edition. I think that one has a label in it.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, the photograph of wagon 6359 does seem to make it a little clearer.

I guess the recess and cover is to protect the label on flat sided vans.

Thanks again.
