Good morning all
I notice that Bachmann are releasing a L&Y 2-4-2T soon.
I feel that it is pretty close to a LNER F1/2. I think the F1/2's were kept on the west side of the Pennines, so if anyone modelling the CLC etc there is a new loco class for your layout. It would probably need a new chimney and possibly a new dome.

I model the CLC so a conversion to an F1/2 has a great appeal for me.

I don't know much about the L&Y, but if the Bachmann 2-4-2T has a belpair firebox, it may just need the boiler mountings changing; a flowerpot chimney, a smaller dome and possibly different safety valves. If however, it has a round topped firebox, then pieces need to be made to convert the firebox. This would probably lead to a complete repaint, rather than merely removing and replacing the numbers and insignia.
Better still if Bachman produce a F1/2.

The F1/F2 possibility has not gone un-noticed. Other related ideas are already on my back-burner too....

I’ve bought a Bachmann 2-4-2 to convert into an F2, but I’m struggling to find a drawing to work off. I could base my efforts on the pictures in RCTS and Yeadon, but that would not be very accurate. Do you happen to know of a source for F2 drawings. I’ve checked Isinglass and they don’t list it.

If that's a Charles Reddy drawing it might be quite a good one to use. I'm afraid I'm short of drawings of many of the pre-Robinson GCR loco classes. I've just had a quick look for a 2-4-2 and failed to spot anything. If I have a drawing it must be hiding quite effectively....

I'm pretty sure I have a copy of that drawing - I'll have a look when I get back from golf. I think they did all the main smaller GC tanks in that series.

Afternoon all

I now think the best way to make a GCR 2-4-2T is to use the SEF N5 kit. The front splashers are separate, and are easily omitted. A spring (for the front pony wheels) needs to be added.

There was a Cotswold kit for the F1, which occasionally cropps up, but I don't know the quality.
