Working Timetables and the P1 class

Post by ahardy »

Dear all,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have been doing some research on the P1 class and from reading the RCTS books it appears that various instructions were issued in the working timetables regards the trains they worked.

Has anyone got a copy of the working timetable from the period and be willing to possibly scan me any references to P1 worked trains?

Many thanks

What year are you looking for?
I have a few early BR WTTs. After 1953, all instructions were removed from WTTs and placed in other publications so it would need to be prior to that.
Thanks.

The P1s were scrapped in 1946, so I imagine we're looking at the pre war LNER period.

By happy chance I have just acquired a rather tatty copy of Geoff Goslin's 'Goods traffic of the LNER' (50p from the local Oxfam bookshop!) and having just read through it recalled something relevant. But I must be good and not scan a copyright work: that's easy enough, I don't have a scanner.

1935 WTT, no. 328 up, the 9.15 class C coal train out of Colwick, arr. 3.35 Ferme Park.

WTT notes in brief:
328 up runs Monday to Saturday inclusive
Mikado engine conveys 100 wagons
Approx train length 670 yards, 20 ton brake van required
Stopping at Connington up home, engine must draw well up to the signal to clear safety catch 701 yards in rear
Generally confined to Up goods/slow lines, watering stop at Cambridge Junction.

GN Main Line WTT summer 1937 says more or less the same as quoted by Hatfield Shed.

WTT available via the LNER Society.

G'day Gents

Just a little bit of conformation, when you say 9.15 (depart) arrive 3.35 Ferme Park, is that 9.15 a.m. or 9.15 p.m. departure (Ex Colwick), whatever time it is, at six hours and twenty minutes it's a long slow drag to London.

Thanks, manna.

9.15am. The train starts at New England, not Colwick.

Arrival at Ferme Park 3/35. So very slow Manna.

G'day Gents

Thanks for that, I was going by the post above, Colwick - Ferme Park, I thought that the P1's only worked New England - Ferme Park.
