I hope someone can answer this. I have seen two period colour photos of 'Sir Nigel Gresley' in BR Green, one dated 1963 where it has nameplates with a Black background, and one photo dated 1965 where the nameplate background is Red. Can some explain the 'when' and 'why' relating to the nameplate colour changes please?
