LNER water can

looking for any information on it please.the date...what is was used for..was told it is early 1900s and used in the dining cars

Cans like this were often used to carry hot water to fill up the wash basins in the hotel bedrooms. May also have been used for a similar purpose on the sleeping cars.

Post 1923, I'd say - doubt the LNE would have had it re-enamelled. Yes, hotel use favourite guess. Pretty rare, whatever.
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Enamel ware was commonplace throughout the early half of the century, so it could have been made at any time, however it is unlikely that even a rich railway company (which the LNER was not) would have thrown out perfectly good pre-grouping items immediately which makes it unlikely to be before the mid to late '20's, equally once the hotels etc had been supplied, they would not have replaced the jugs unnecessarily, which makes it unlikely to be later than the mid '30's
