The TEES THAMES

I am looking to order some 4mm carriage destination boards for my model of the Tees Thames to run on Stoke Summit. The train obviously carried TEES THAMES boards but I also think it carried Kings Cross - Saltburn ones and possibly Kings Cross - Middlesbrough ones (even possibly Kings Cross - Middlesbrough - Saltburn ones !!). Has anyone got definitive information please. I saw the train quite frequently in the early 60s but took no notice of destination boards in my spotting days !!

Looking at my cuttings file I can’t see any roof boards on the carriages, let alone destination or route ones. Only headboards on the locomotives. Sorry

Hi not sure if this is a figment of your imagination for your layout,as a "Cross" area boy never saw the word "Thames" in conjunction with Kings Cross workings, yeah next door(St Pancras had the "Thames Clyde Express"Tees-Tyne (Express)" Pullman maybe?but dont remember any coach destination boards with names you mentioned, apart from Tyne Dock.

mardle is quite correct. The Tees-Thames was a short lived service, from 1959 to 1961, between Kings Cross-Middlesbrough-Saltburn.
Sorry I can't help with the destination boards. There aren't any photos listed in the NERA collections.

Hi Mardle sorry, lead you astray, never ever saw the train or empty stock hanging around with those headboards affixed, a real rarity for a short period, anyone got dep/arrival times locos diagramed etc?

Hi rockinjohn,

There was an earlier thread in the Photographs and Videos section that goes someway to answering your questions.
