Prince of Wales

Post by burnie »

Whilst watching Tornado go past a chap was telling me that gossip has it that 2007 will be running up to Aberdeen next year, not sure if he was an optimist or whether he knew anything, would be nice to see it.

Thing to do is have a look at the A1SLT website, which has sections on both the P2 and V4. Looking at it 2007 is still on the face of it a pile of assorted parts in various states of manufacture. There are still some parts that haven't been ordered/made/arrived yet. So on the face of it IMO it'll be a year or two yet. Especially when you take into account the last 12-18 months with the pandemic and all that, throwing a mega spanner in the works.

G'Day Gents

If I remember correctly, They are having two boilers built, as both engines use the same type of boiler.

That apparently is the plan manna. As speaking from experience and looking at how other groups overhaul/repair their locomotives etc., it's the boiler is pretty well the main item that takes so long to repair/overhaul.

If I recall information correctly, the A1/P2SLT will have 3 boilers for Tornado & Prince of Wales because as has been mentioned they have the same boilers ( Diagram 118a if I'm not mistaken ).

The idea behind this is that if 1 of the locos is due up for an overhaul, having a boiler literally ready to fit will significantly reduce the time required to get the loco back out on the tracks and also that because the boilers are the same type, they csn be fitted on either loco so Tornado's boiler could end up on Prince Of Wales and vice versa.

According to the last video, there were hoping have had the boiler delivered by now, that was if covid and Brexit haven't delayed things.
