winter 1937

Post by hq1hitchin »

Apologies for the less than perfect quality of this rare shot which I got from a local paper. It's winter 1937 and this shows a station that went many years ago. Anyone hazard a guess as to which one?

Hmmm . . . you found it in a local paper, eh?. Maybe on the Hitchin-Bedford line, then.

Ickleford?

P.S. I wish winter looked like that around these parts. :-)

'Fraid not Giner - in the same county though.

Yes, must be a tough country in the wintertime.

OK chaps - it is Dunstable Town, looking at it from the Luton side and it was closed in 1965 without cost saving measures like pay trains even being tried on the Hatfield - Dunstable North branch. Just try riding a
bicycle along that part of the A505 now!

:D erm . . . just a technicality yer honour, but Dunstable and Ickleford are not in the same county. Can I go now? Okay, I wouldn't have got it in a million years. I'd have thought that Dunstable would have been more built up than that, even in 1937.

OOOPS - sorry, I was confusing Ickleford with the place in Bedfordshire where they still dance around the maypole?...
