NER Wagonplates

Post by Bryan »

I have recently unearthed some NER wagon load capacity plates, along with loads of smashed numberplates all with wording of North Eastern Railway above and below the number.
There are too many bits of numberplates to make a jigsaw job a practical idea so Plan B
Can anyone offer any indication as to what type of wagons carried 8 ton, 8 1/2 ton and 10 ton plates.
Also some other remnants of plates state SD with the word BALLAST underneath.
1 oddity amongst them is an 8 ton plate also stating across the middle Built at York 1895.
The only stipulation on any guess work is that all these plates must have been removed for scrap at York by 1909.
I have looked at Tatlow LNER wagons Vol 2 and a possibility of low sided plank wagons seems to be reasonable, can anyone confirm?
