Line Diagrams

Post by Bryan »

For reference, This is my collection of these diagrams.
Most are of approx 1913 - 15 vintage according to date printed on them.
Some especially the ex LM lines are obviously an attempt to record in the same fashion the lines taken over by Leeds Area Civil Engineers office.
I have noted what sheets I have and if possible an indication of the total sheets applicable to that route.
Let me know if this helps anyone.

Hi Andy

I'm trying to get a full copy of the line diagram if possible. Your Info is good thanks. It would be great if I could get more pictures of the line when it was open.

I have by chance come across two or thee photos of the Bracken Hill Branch. (S&K junction and Moor Top Station) there are published photos in different books. If this post is still open I would be intersted to swap info.

Cheers

For those interested in all things Brackenhill Light Railway, below is a list of all the photographic references I have come across. I doubt it is complete, and would ask if you know of any others, you would append them. Thanks Steve.

Brackenhill Light Railway Photographic Bibliography

(1) D.L. Franks; Swinton and Knottingley Railway; Dalesman Books; 1979
(2) Peter Cookson & John E. Farline; L.N.E.R. LINES In the Yorkshire Ridings; Challenger Publications 1995

(2) Page 24: shows a Selby based Q6 with coal train off the Brackenhill branch.
(3) Page 35: shows the level crossing on Mill Lane in the 1960s
(3) Page 52: a loco can be seen in the far distance
(4) Page 63: shows a Q6 in charge of a Brackenhill goods.

(4) Page 71: trip working to Brackenhill
(4) Page 73: Brackenhill Junction
(4) Page 73: Brackenhill Light Railway at Hemsworth Colliery. I assume these to be exchange sidings.
(4) Page 74: run round/passing loops at Moor Top on the Brackenhill branch. With sketch of track diagram and then a photo a little further back of the entrance to Moor Top goods station. You will be able to match the buildings in both photographs.
(5) Page 51: coal and coke traffic stood at Pontefract off the Brackenhill
(6) Page 50: Q6 with coal traffic off the Brackenhill coming into the southern end of Pontefract Baghill.
(6) Page 60: I assume the marshalling being done here is forwarding of coals from Hemsworth etc.
(6) Page 62: this is a favourite shot. Brackenhill pick up being side lined. It that a J27 at the front?
(7) Page 17: shows a Johnson 2F 0-6-0 putting coal out of Pontefract Baghill back to Rotherham

A new video has come up on YouTube by 'Colin the Head' and his guide to the Brackenhill branch. All though I can't vouch for the accuracy of what he says, there are some shots of the old track bed, bridges and earth works that might be of interest.

https://youtu.be/WvcabNsPdso

You might look up a second of his videos where he talks about the viaduct at Ackworth.
