I'm afraid that for some reason those two links do not work for me.PinzaC55 wrote:Many years ago I acquired an old Train Register from Penshaw North signalbox on the Leamside Line and I've just scanned a couple of pages from 2nd September 1963 and uploaded them to Flickr. I thought some of you may be interested to see them, particularly as they mention a few LNER locos such as 60061 Pretty Polly on what must have been one of her last runs before being scrapped.

Re: Last Sighting of 60061 Pretty Polly
I have a builders plate off 61268, but although it has that number it, it still has London North Eastern Railway round the edges, was this normal, it looks as though the new number has been added to the old plate.

Sorry for veering off thread, but the subject of LNER plates showing BR numbers is an interesting one.
If you look on the Great Central Railwayana website (sorry, I can't do links) and look at old catalogues you will see examples, including, I think, ones with the BR number cast on, as well as riveted over the Thompson number.
What I find particularly interesting is that, self evidently, a plate with a BR number on dates from when the loco was re-numbered. There was one case, from memory, of the plate of an ex NB 4-4-2T, that only lasted about 4 years from re-numbering to scrap (and probably spent a lot of time in store) being described in terms of the locos whole life and, I thought oddly, fetching a good price.
I have been careful to use the word plate rather than refer to worksplate. This is because in steam days I puzzled over locos. having plates that said, for example, LMS/1905/DERBY when the LMS did not exist in 1905; why did they go to the trouble of re-casting plates?. The answer I was given that these were ownership plates and it was important that every loco. carried them.
