Hi

The LNER inherited a joint interest in the Metropolitan & Great Central Joint Committee line in 1923. They subsequently shared joint interest with various bodies as follows:

pre-1923: line jointly owned by the Metropolitan Railway (MetR) and the Great Central Railway (GCR)

1923-1933: still owned by the MetR, now jointly with the L.N.E.R. (who inherited the joint ownership from the G.C.R. in the 1923 grouping)

1933-1948: now jointly owned by the London Passenger Transport Board (who inherited joint ownership from the MetR) and (still) the L.N.E.R.

... and subsequently ...

1948-1963: line owned by British Transport Commission (London Transport Executive)

1963: line owned by London Transport Board, jointly with British Railways (?)

... I think!!

I think that the thread contained most of the LNER joint lines but for my own interest, I have pulled them all together. In addition, there is a list of some docks and stations which, I dare say, can be expanded. (Was Hawes a joint station?). I have set the date at about 1920, whilst the H&B was still independent.

It is noticeable that the GCR was involved in more joint ventures than most other companies.

Any corrections or additions will be welcome.

To add to the confusion didn't the LNER take over some of the Metropolitan/LT locomotive stock for working beyond Rickmansworth, the furthest extent of electrification then, but the track still remained LT/LNER Joint?

It looks like the old South Yorkshire Joint Railway has been somewhat reduced over the christmas break; thieves have taken 1,400 yards of track:

The LNER took over the operations on 1/11/1933 and bought 18 of the Met's larger locos, classified as H2, L2 and M2. Full details in the Encyclopedia!

I'm glad somebody mentioned Leeds Central when only Leeds City (Leeds New) had first been listed. I had wondered whether the management of Central had remained joint, since GNR/LNER dominated as it ultimately was, the GNR was actually something of a latecomer at the original station, and I believe the (ex L&Y) LMS services to Manchester continued to operate from Central.
