Beyer-Garratts worked these to York in the 50s - and I remember seeing them on shed - but what worked them on to Teeside?
WDs??

CooperAJN,

I too remember seeing Beyer Garratts at York. I saw 2 at a time when there were only 4 left in 1957. One was running past on a mineral train at Hob Moor and the other was coming back light engine on the main line opposite York North loco shed. I believe the latter had worked a train through to the reception sidings by the sugar beet factory at Acomb. This was a difficult site to get to as it was between the factory and the river.

There was a turntable there so it would be entirely possible for a loco to work in from the north, take water, turn round and take another train back north without going on shed at York. I think that this is why we saw very few Q6s at York shed.

Logically, you would expect both WDs and Q6s to work the ore trains north. Can anybody confirm this?
