Silloth Station

Post by Ptarmigan »

Recently ( in LNER Locos - Loco Ident) I was waxing lyrical about that remote outpost of the LNER empire that was the Carlisle-Silloth branch and my youthful holiday line.
I have just found out that the good news is that the station building still stands, the bad news is that planning permission has just been granted (reported in the "Cumberland News" last week I think) to demolish it and build houses :(
The worsest bit is that I now live at the wrong end of the country so going to inspect it is outada question :(
It was described by various parties as the "last remaining eyesore" ! So it must be in a bit of a 'state' ! Truth is that I am surprised that it is still there at all, these many years on.

If anyone upyonder fancies a quick capture on camera ??? best to hurry now !
