Re: Working the Jazz

On what was the Great Eastern Hotel at Liverpool Street Station there is a blue plaque stating that on this site stood a hospital called St Bethlehem known as "Bedlam". Nothing much has changed over the years. I often thought that there was some connection between those that proposed in the 1970s to convert the rail station into a bus station and the rail track into a busway and this hospital!

I don't remember much about the Jazz service but I remember ex Wood Street and Enfield Town fireman that came to Kings Cross talking about the intensity of the workings involved. There no doubt that steam hauled suburban work could be just as hard as main line work.
