Andrew Dow

Post by JASd17 »

I have been informed that Andrew Dow has died.

Both he and his father were considerable LNER researchers, as well as fulfilling many other roles.

A sad loss.

I am very sad to learn that. I had corresponded with Andrew on a number of matters and he was always helpful and most knowledgeable.

While not a mainstream subject, although probably the most important component of the railway, Andrew had recently completed his long-term research of Permanent Way development and I bought a copy of the resulting book earlier this year - a treasure house of information. He was also closely involved with military aviation as well of course as being Head of the NRM at one time.

Oh, my goodness - that is sad news.

I knew Andrew through his one time involvement in A1SLT, although it's some years now since I last saw him. A great loss to the LNER world :(

That is very sad news. My sincerest condolences to his family.

He was a leading figure in railway preservation on a number of fronts, and very much inspirational in all that he accomplished and looked to accomplish.

May he rest in peace.
