Jack Mead station manager

Post by Mickey » Sun May 22, 2016 2:00 pm

Does anyone remember Jack Mead?. Jack or Mr.Mead as he was usually known was a station manager located at Welwyn Garden City station during the early 1970s and then I believe he moved northwards down the line to Hitchin station as a manager sometime during the middle 1970s.

I don't know where and when Jack had started on the railway (or where he finished it?) but when i met him on my first day on the railway as a 15 year old telegraph lad starting at Welwyn Garden City box in July 1972 in his office at Welwyn Garden City station located in one of the rooms on the Down side platforms I vaguely recall him as a fairly well built man with a fair head of hair and who wore glasses and who was probably then in his early/mid 50s?.

Anyone know what became of him?.
