Alnmouth Signalman 1890-1937

Post by Alrich »

My Great grandad ALEXANDER RICHARDSON was listed as signalman at Alnmouth Alnwick from the NT days to LNER in 1937. I have been given pics of his name listed on the honor board in the bookshop at Alnwick. If anyone has any info especially a picture of him at any stage of his tenure I would love to see it.
I live in Western Australia so you will have to email !

How things change!

Even allowing for the removal of the junction, it seems so much more complicated than it is now (or was when I picked someone up from the station in the late 90s).

I think pic is dated 1907 after a resignalling, note the district signal engineers petrol car in the road next to the shed. Nowt complex about the layout a road from the shed to the down main and the Alnwick branch connections which either led to platform 3 or 1 depending if the train was a local or a through train to Newcastle and points south.

Nice view of the throat of the shed here, note there are 2 sets of 3 way points. It looks as though there are a number of gas bottles lying beside the track or am I mistaken ?

Also several views of the station here with a few colour photos by the late John Boyes showing detail of the signals being replaced by colour lights.
