Just been advised Dick Hardy died on Sunday night
A real gentleman

Indeed, a sad loss. I only met him once but he was indeed a gentleman and quite charming. Luckily he has left us a great body of written work, including some of my favourite books.

Sad indeed, he will be much missed by family and friends for sure. I enjoyed hearing him speak on a couple of occasions, a high class raconteur. RIP.

Happily we do have his most entertaining writing to remember him by, which I find myself dipping into with some regularity

A nice touch last Thursday was on 70013 from Liverpool St to Norwich with the Cathedrals Express
Not just a wreath on the smokebox door but a 32B shedplate (where RHN Hardy was shedmaster in the early 50s)
and a long pull on the Brit's chime whistle passing Stratford.
