Ebchester Stationmaster 1860's John Smith

Post by MichaelNZ »

Greetings to all.
I recently made a break through in ancestry research, and have learnt that my great-great grandfather was John SMITH who lived at the stationhouse with wife Mary Smith (nee TODD) . They had six children over the period 1860 to 1869, of whom three were born in the stationmaster's house, and the other three in Railway Terrace in the town of Conside & Knitsley - I still have to research Railway Tce.
The second to youngest son died aged eight years; and later the remaining family sailed to New Zealand settling in Christchurch.
Eldest son George John SMITH became a merchant, a member of the NZ legislative assembly, and an Hon Colonel in the military.
It is great to see photos of the stationhouse and station.
Keep up the great work.
Kind regards, Michael Bruce-Smith, Masterton, New Zealand.
