Search re: my grandfather

Post by Tasha#1 »

Hi
My grandfather was employed by LNER and retired either just before or during WW2. His name was George Edward TINDILL, Born (I think) on 4 June 1875. His last post at LNER was as Station Master at Rillington in E. Riding of Yorkshire. I should like to know more about his various posts over the years with LNER and if possible more information about his parents/guardians. My mother told me he was an orphan and brought up by and uncle but I have no details. After retiring from LNER he lived in Norton, Malton, Yorks and died sometime in 1957. Thanks and kind regards. Ann: a quick check on the 1911 UK census website found a George Edward TINDILL born in 1876 and living (in 1911) at Great Ouseburn in the West Riding. You can check this on

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

by filling in the boxes with his name. You can leave the date of birth empty - there's only one. You can pay to get more information and then, if he's the right person, track him through earlier census records.

Also try the Ken Hoole Study Centre where there are some NER staff records; they will do research on your behalf, but there may be a charge. http://www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/m.h.ellison/nera/khoole/
