2512 Silver Fox's Fireman, C. Fisher – 27th August 1936

Post by 73D »

After the amazing success of the thread on Jack Luty I'm hopping that someone may know the first name of the fireman on Silver Fox's footplate on 27th August 1936, when it achieved 113 mph while hauling the southbound Silver Jubilee, which is the highest ever attained on a revenue-earning steam service – officially!

The driver was George Haygreen but I only know the fireman as C. Fisher.

Anyone know?

Looks like my question has drawn a blank this time! Many thanks to those who did a bit of digging and drew a blank. Anyway time has run-out as far as my print is concerned, so I have had to just go with the initial 'C'.

The print of Silver Fox is now available and can be viewed here: http://www.locos-in-profile.co.uk/Print ... r_Fox.html

sorry this is too late for you, but that Fireman who fired to George Haygreen may have been Charlie Fisher wish a possible seniority date of C1919.....

Jim, thanks for you input. It seems the candidate you have found may fit with his seniority giving him 17 years service, so about right for a top link fireman?

The pages/site are under construction and I will be adding photo captions etc as I get more information together.

Hello, newbie here - and not a train expert. But I can tell you that I RECOGNISED that photo of my Grandfather, Charlie Fisher, standing on the right hand side and shaking hands with driver Haygreen. I will try and find out whether I can tell you more about his career as a Fireman from my mother. On a personal note, when this photo was taken, MY father, Harry Fisher, (Charlie's first surviving child) would have been just over 6 weeks old, he later went on to become an aircraft engineer, then a pilot in the RAF and then a test pilot.

I don't know if this is anything to worry about:

Has anybody else had this message?
