Looking for my grandfather Joseph Vollans Straw

Post by yorkshirerose »

Hi

Am looking for information on my grandfather, Joseph Vollans Straw - he died in the 1970's and on his death certificate is down as a Railway Trackman - I think he worked at either Swinton or Mexborough in South Yorkshire. Sadly there is no-one left to help with any information in the family, if anyone could help or steer me in the right direction as to finding out more about his service I would be very grateful.

Ay up!

You need to get hold of a copy of "LNER Reflections", part of the BBC/Hulton picture library collection. This has a section dedicated to following the work of a certain Jimmy McGurl who was a trackman like your grandfather.

I always feel that if you get piccies of someone doing the same job this brings you closer to them.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
