LNER water cranes

Post by 52D sub shed » Mon Oct 29, 2018 3:23 pm

Good day, I am looking for a supplier of the type of LNER water cranes which have the extended arm, presumably done to access higher sided tenders.

regards

I presume you mean the Great Northern water crane that had two extension pieces inserted that both lengthened and raised the height of the arm so they could be used for the 8 wheel tenders?

If so, these are made by Mikes Models and probably available from Holt Model Railways in Wales who are the owners of the Mikes range.

But note I think they are a bit too high and the arm is too long, ie they are a bit overscale. I shortened the column and reduced the arm length on two I have.

At least they are not as overscale as the GC water columns made by Mike Models - these are more like 5.5mm scale (just a guess) .

I've got a Cat 3 North Eastern (floor mounting) and a Cat 29 North Eastern (Platform mounting) Mikes Models Water cranes if someone wants to make an offer, as they're unlikely to be used.

Thank you for taking the time out to reply.
The Mike's Models long/high reach WC has been out of production for years so I will continue to trawl through eBay.

Excellent. I'm Glad they'll be used rather than gather dust.
