50A,

ALWAYS Jarvik, because 60847 was nevere based anywhere else.

Your turn, I think. Don't be shy.

Try this one for size..........

You will need this to hit this paper sized loco

A 3 digit number which totals just 8, the later renumbering only added 6 more

At home in '59 and in Polmadie for withdrawl in half a dozen more.

50A,

Good one, I think that I have the answer and it checks out, so I will sit tight and give someone else a chance.

50A and Colombo,

I have limited resources, mainly the LNER Encyclopedia and a 1950 ABC combined volume, can I answer the puzzle with these?

Hi John.

You can find all but the shed info within these pages. Think laterally for the shed (easy for me to say).

John B,

You also have the Locoshed Index, which gives you all the allocations on line, as listed in the Ian Allan Locoshed books. So you can look to see what was allocated to each shed.

Thanks guys,

Here goes - yet again :?

Was it B1 "Inyala"

LNER number 1016, later BR number 61016

Scrapped in October 1965

Shedded at Leeds (Neville Hill) 50B in 1959

Unfortunately I can't seem to track down the Polmadie withdrawal connection. :?:

Hi John.

Nice try, but I'm afraid not correct. You have the right idea with the sum of numbers.

Dare I hint that Robin Hood always took one of these when aiming at the bull.

Aha,

I have it now.

Robin Hood would definitely need this to hit the paper sized loco, (he could also split an arrow already in the bull remember) Thompson would indeed have been proud.

A2 "Steady Aim"

Procedural point here! I guessed the clues some time after Colombo did, soooooo my question is whose turn is it now to write more clues?

Oh dang it!??!!? Here's one I prepared earlier, guess the class:

1. Unamed locos; dual attribution

2. Tractive effort summed up as 28

3. Class: a corvid

4. Nearly half the class at an eastern region shed (1950)

Here's one for any officianado's 8) amongst you.

Guess this LNER engine's class and number :?:

1. The only casualty of the class and it was not mentioned in the
1950 ABC Combined Volume.

2. Withdrawn & scrapped after being in service for only four years.

3. Before the Guthrum's, Bodicca's supporters held sway around here.

4. At Domesday, this locomotive's home shed was called
Gipewiz.

Good luck !?!

 if you guess it, then it's your turn

The only reference I can find to Gipewiz gives it as Ipswich?

Many of the other clues point to Gadwell / Sir Ralph Wedgwood, but that was allocated to Gateshead.

Hi Richard,

An excellent attempt but not correct, 4469 was indeed only in traffic for four years but was withdrawn much earlier than the more numerous class of engine to which the given clues relate.

Your in the right physical area too.

B1 No. 61057 Destroyed in a collision at Liverpool Street in 1950. Without checking the books, must have been about 4 yrs old.

Earlier I was looking for names but managed to discount B17s, B2s, and D49s...
