The real problem is that it's not the 'old' NOTW - nothing traditional about it, only sleaze.

We already have a SUNDAY SUN, it is our local Sunday newspaper.Traditional life in this country has been destroyed by self seeking politicians over the last 50 years.
I'm not going to go off in a rant or I will be on the keyboard all night.

Good riddance. Can we throw the Daily Mail in too for closing? 8)

I feel for the poor innocent NoW workers who have lost their jobs and done nothing wrong, while the boss at the time keeps hers for now it seems.

I'm divided on the whole thing.

Yes the currently astonomically escalating scandal and those who commissioned and perpetrated it seem truly despicable and appalling, yet even without that, the paper's normal trade seemed overly led by (often regrettably not unlawful) privacy invasion and what the pappa-rats-i could grab and glean.

But on the other hand, it's a shame when a very long-established publication goes under, and a huge number of the staff who will presumably be out on their ear will have either joined NotW after these awful goings on, or otherwise never had anything to do with it, knew nothing of it, and wouldn't have touched it with the proverbial barge-pole if they had known.

Of course if someone decides to re-launch the paper, as something better, at some time, the clean break would probably give it a better chance than trying to transform it during continuous publication.

For all the increasing shock and rightful indignance being felt this week though (with possibly even more to emerge), there's still a strong chord of sadness somewhere in the whole thing, I reckon.
(& could we better off seeing the back of a rag like The Sport rather than NotW?)

I remember being at school in 1964 and some kid had bought the very first copy of THE SUN that morning!

I remember him reading the words in the school yard out to a group of us kids

''THE SUN edition no.1''
A Sun 'reader' who could read ! That's a novelty.

The original "Sun" was not a Murdoch paper. Not even a tabloid. Only the name survived.
