URGENT!! - CHECK YOUR ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS!!!

Post by Blink Bonny »

Ay up!

Please check your anti-virus programs. I've just had my nerdbox infected by a very nasty Trojan purporting to be from the Police e-Crime Unit. It is a scam and do not pay the £100 demanded.

I was very nearly taken in. However, a quick Gooooooogle put me right.

Please check your anti-malware. This is nasty.

These things are always floating around. Just be on your guard. No police (or bank!) demand is going to arrive by email.

Keep your computer up to date, and install virus software if you don't have any already (the standard Windows Defender is actually pretty good these days).

Ay up!

My computer is now clean but this Trojan is a nasty one. It hides from every installed anti-virus program installed on the computer and, when the operator tries to activate a pre-existing package that it can't hide from, the virus activates itself and locks the computer.

I've downloaded SpyHunter which has cleared it. I already have IOBit Advanced System Care, Windows Defender and McAfee packages installed. It hid from the first two and locked the 'puter on activating the 3rd. None would locate it in "safe" mode, the only way I could make the box work.

There are instruction pages available but they're beyond me. Maybe someone with more tech knowledge could make then work. Anyway, even in "safe" mode SpyHunter has cleared it, enabling me to chat with my mates online again.

Has anyone missed me?

Trojans are nasty things, lost a laptop's entire memory to one in the past.

As Richard said, Windows' program is pretty good. McAfee, the last time I had it, was a bloated mess in contrast.

I lost everything on my hard drive earlier this year when I picked up a trojan. I now use Linux instead of windows, and so far everything has been ok; it is faster, more stable and has many more features as standard, but it takes a little bit of getting used to.

I recently got an e-mail purportedly from Paypal with an attachment. It addressed me as "Dear Customer" but Paypal say they always use your full name and never include attachments.

Ay up!

You gotta be wide awake for these.

Another beauty are these "Win on some foreign lottery" scams.

I always ask - what do I stand to gain? And, on a foreign lottery, when did I buy the ticket?
