Thanks, James. So, a fast fitted freight? I'm not familiar with MR headlamp codes.

Hi,
What a wonderful selection of images, I know the area well as it is now and wish I also knew it back then. The image of the Jubilee of the Thames Clyde is simply wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks
Simon.

This is a standard BR headcode. Class D express freight, not less than one third of the vehicles fitted.

Heading north this time.

Thanks, John. It's just that I don't recall ever having seen that headcode In my old haunts along the GN main line in North Herts.

I credit this to Gary Holmes on F/B for this excellent pic , of a "double header " making it's way north ,as it passes Shipley Bend

While on face-book I came across this image of a "crab " coming around the Shipley Bend . It took me right back to when I first started train spotting on that bank side ,on the right of the picture ..... seeing the signals going up , and wondering what is coming down from Leeds , or around the corner ..

From 1959 to 1961 I was at Saltaire Road school , and the playground over looked this part of the track , having seen this pic on face book , brought it all back , to the play times we spent "train spotting "

A rough guess of the date Jimmy I would say would be around 1975/76?.

From vague memory I believe it was around 1975/76 onwards that the 4 digit loco headcode indicators started to appear with 0000 headcodes instead of x4 character headcodes that they had done up until then?. After a short'ish period of time with locos running about with the 0000 headcodes the x2 dot headcodes started appearing in all the other classes such as the class 31s, 40s, 47s and possibly most memorably in the latter years of the class 55 Deltics during the late 1970s and into the early 1980s.
