I'm glad that you confirmed it Postman the 'tenderless' tender loco?.

Why would a tender loco be 'in steam' minus it's tender??.

At the very least it makes feeding the firebox with coal ruddy hard work for whoevers firing it and don't even ask about wheres the water coming from??.

Ay up!

Don't forget that the Crabs, like many early LMS locos, had cabs built to the full width of the loading gauge but those silly narrow Fowler tenders so she may well have her tender coupled just hidden by the wider cab.

Having ridden on a Crab that narrow tender is quite unnerving......

Yes those Fowler 6-wheeled tenders were small looking things BB and ok for a Fowler 4F 0-6-0 freight loco but coupled with a mixed traffic 2-6-0 'Crab' they looked miss paired with each other.

Silliest thing you ever saw was a Scot with a Fowler tender, as built.....

I've seen the photos BB although I quite like those small 6-wheeled Fowler tenders with the handrails.

Ex-LMS Fairburn 2-6-4T in a filthy condition minus it's smokebox door number taking on water at Bradford Exchange circa 1966/67.

The driver wears the usual black grease top cap with a British Railways enamel cap badge along with his faded blue overalls that most drivers wore on BR during 'steam days' while his fireman also wears a grease top cap and darker blue overalls while both men wear hobnail boots that was essential to wear back then. No doubt there is a white enamel tea can full of hot sweet tea in the cab ready to wash down the cheese sarnies!.

45736 Phoenix one of the two LMS Rebuilt Jubilee class locos the other one being 45735 Comet with both locos being withdrawn from traffic in 1964 with 45736 going in September 1964 and 45735 going in October 1964 with both locos being cut up in January 1965.

Another nice shot. Rebuilt Jubilees, Scots, Patriots, all looked too similar to the Eastern eye - a certain 'handsome-ness', though. At first glance that photo could've been any one of them, to me.

One easy way to tell them apart although maybe not in this picture is the cab, the Scots retained their old cab with "cut out" and only one side window. The Patriots got the new Stanier with double windows the two Jubilees already have it.
