I think the right hand loco is 50636. 50686 I believe had a belpaire boiler. Along with 50621 (now preserved at York?), I was pulled to school in the 50s many times by all 4 of them (not all at the same time!). Wonderful little locos.

I thought they were ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway tanks. The L&Y appeared to like the 2-4-2 wheel arrangement for there locos working there suburban services as I have seen some archive film footage of a 2-4-2 ex-L&Y tank in LMS days possibly the 1930s departing Blackpool on a passenger working.

The Bachmann version below of no.50636 in B.R. black livery with the early B.R. emblem on the tank sides.

Thanks for the link Mickey. In the mid 50s the 4 locos that I mentioned were shedded between Holbeck, Manningham, and Ilkley, and worked mainly on the Leeds City to Ilkley, or Bradford FS to Ilkley and through to Skipton. They had a curious popping sound on the overrun, hence the nickname 'Coffeepots'. I loved them.

A typical day at Holbeck , two diesels standing dead , and a view over looking the shed by Steve Brooks , taken in Sept 67 , a big change taking place

Black 5 no.45428 was withdrawn from traffic in July 1967 and was then bought privately with the loco staying at Holbeck shed for a year before travelling 'in steam' to Tyseley in Birmingham just days before the end of steam on B.R. in August 1968.

Every time I went to look over Holbeck shed , I never seem to collect the same numbers , it just was so busy all the time ..
