caprotti valve gear

Post by Aussiesteamer »

I'm currently embarking in designing a 5" freelance steam locomotive closely resembling a cross between a stainer black 5 and a castle class locomotive with the intent of constructing it one day. I'm wanting to use Caprotti valve gear in it as the sources iv found say its incredibly efficient etc etc however I cannot for the life of me workout how it actually works. So I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about it? like tech drawings, schematics or anything on it would be greatly appreciated!!

I recommend you get in touch with the group that own and look after BR Class 8 Pacific 71000 "Duke of Gloucester". They sold me an interesting mini booklet describing the British Caprotti gear fitted to their locomotive with diagrams.
