Finsbury Park crash in 1959

A small piece of Pathe news film shot at Finsbury Park showing the aftermath of a pile up on the Up side of the station in 1959.

This accident apparently happened on Monday November 9th 1959 and it appears that a tank loco running bunker first and hauling a train of loose coupled mineral wagons has run into the back of a train of Inner suburban non-corridor stock (block enders) although the rest of train that was in the Up platform appears to have been removed.

Interesting to note that back in 1959 the Stroud Green Road that runs under the main lines immediately north of the station remained open to motorway traffic and pedestrians even though a passenger coach is clearly seen in the air above the bridge parapet.
