Old gwr signal lantern.

Post by Ktgit121 »

Hi
I bought this signal lantern in a junk shop and would like some more information about it please.
It’s a gwr lamp dated 1920, it has a large bulbous glass reflecter on one side and a smaller one at the back,no handle. The top opens but the oil burner is missing.
Where would this lamp been used for and would it had been on the platform or maybe the train?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks Kevin.

Hi Kevin,

Do you think you could provide pictures of the lantern? Even if they're taken from your phone under artificial lights, it will help to identify the thing. Your description is quite accurate, but there are always small variations between these things and without visual proofs, we may well miss the mark.
